Some Punjab districts get excess rain, several remain dry

PTI file Vijay Mohan Chandigarh, January 3 While the New Year brought in surplus rain in Punjab, many parts of the state remained dry despite intermittent and widespread showers in the region over the past two days. The weather department has recorded rain to be surplus by 42 per cent in the state, while the minimum temperature in some parts remained up to 8 degrees Celsius above normal over the past 24 hours. From January 1 to January 3, Punjab as a whole received 1.1 mm rain against the normal of 0.8 mm for this period, according to data compiled by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). While parts of adjoining Himachal Pradesh received snow, rain in the hill state was 7 per cent below the long period average for this duration.
