New Delhi, Dec 16: Surrender or be wiped out. This is what Indian Army Chief, General S H F J Manekshaw had told Pakistan.
India observes Vijay Diwas on December 16 every year to mark its decisive victory in the war that led to the surrender of 93,000 Pakistani soldiers and creation of Bangladesh.

ITANAGAR, 16 Dec: Governor BD Mishra called upon the younger generation to draw lessons from the 1971 Indo-Pak war, which the Indian army fought with great valour.
Participating in an e-conclave on the historic 1971 Indo-Pak war, organized by the Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) virtually on the occasion of ‘Vijay Diwas’ on Wednesday, Mishra said that “for India to become a stronger nation there must be
strong political will and leadership, coupled with full defence preparedness for armed forces to thwart any eventuality.”
The governor welcomed the free hand given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to defence forces in countering the recent misadventures by Pakistan and China on the borders.

He said that Uttarakhand has played a vital role in strengthening India s security as 1343 soldiers from the state have been awarded gallantry medals including one Paramvir Chakra, six Ashoka Chakras, 13 Mahavir Chakras and 32 Kirti Chakras.

JAMMU/SRINAGAR, Dec 16: The Army and Ex-servicemen today celebrated Vijay Diwas in Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of the country and paid homage to soldiers who laid down their lives in the 1971 India-Pakistan war.
Lieutenant Governor, Union Territory of J&K, Manoj Sinha paid tribute to the martyrs, who laid down their lives for the Nation during the 1971 war. The day commemorates the historic victory of Indian Armed Forces and the indomitable spirit of the brave soldiers.
In his message, the Lt Governor said, “On Vijay Diwas, let us remember the valour of our soldiers and their unwavering commitment to defend India’s sovereignty and protect human dignity. We are eternally indebted to our brave soldiers for their courage and selfless service to the nation for protecting our frontiers from the enemies and maintaining peace in the country,” he added.
