CFTC: Federal Court Orders Oregon Owner Of Precious Metals Firm To Pay $1.3 Million To Victims Of Fraudulent Precious Metals Scheme Date 27/04/2021 The Commodity Futures Trading Commission today announced that the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington entered a consent order against Aaron Michael Scott of Portland, Oregon for fraud and misappropriation in connection with a precious metals scheme run by Scott and his now defunct company, BMC Worldwide, Inc. (d/b/a Blue Moon Coins).  The order requires Scott to pay $1,381,461.86 in restitution to defrauded customers. Additionally, the order prohibits Scott from further violations of the Commodity Exchange Act and CFTC Regulations and permanently bans him from registering with the CFTC and trading in any commodity interests.

Friday, April 16, 2021 Today, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced a joint whistleblower award of $50 million to claimants whose information of highly complex illegal transactions led to successful enforcement actions. As a result of their reporting, the whistleblowers helped in the recovery of tens of millions of dollars that were returned to harmed investors. According to the SEC award order, Claimants 1 and 2 provided the Commission staff with highly valuable information that led to the opening of an investigation into an ongoing fraud. The fraudulent scheme, the award order continued, would have been difficult to detect without the assistance of the whistleblowers.

Ms. Norberg has been with the Office since near its inception in 2012, serving as its first Deputy Chief and, since 2016, its Chief. During her time as Chief, Ms. Norberg streamlined the awards review and adjudication process, managed an expansion of the Office s staff, and oversaw a dramatic growth in the number of awards issued to whistleblowers under the program, in part by leveraging the work of staff across the to complement that of the Office s dedicated staff. Ms. Norberg also played an active role in Division-wide efforts related to diversity and inclusion.
