City will provide CARES Act funding to help domestic violence victims The city of Wichita will provide some federal coronavirus relief funds to a local agency to develop a new shelter for domestic violence victims. The city council has approved $800,000 in funding from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act for the Wichita Family Crisis Center.   The agency will use the funding to offset costs in buying and renovating a building into a temporary shelter for domestic violence victims. Mayor Brandon Whipple said there has been a surge in domestic violence incidents across the country in the past year, as an effect of the coronavirus pandemic.   He said there has been a 65 percent in aggravated battery cases with a 39 percent increase in aggravated assault.   He said the city wants to work with non-profit agencies to help victims.   He said the CARES funding will help the Wichita Family Crisis Center in finding a building to provide more space for victi
