Hickman High School senior Justin Eddy named Presidential Scholar At the end of the school year, Columbia students are celebrating their academic victories including perfect ACT scores, National Merit Scholarships and one Presidential Scholar. Justin Eddy, a senior at Hickman High School, was named a Presidential Scholar  the school s first in 10 years and the 19th in its history. Justin was one of 20 students receiving the honor nationwide for career and technical education. There also were 20 students recognized in the arts. Two students also are chosen in each state for academic achievement. Justin, 18, thrived and excelled in FFA at Hickman. He had leadership roles including chapter president, area president and now state president.

I love Rock Bridge, she said. She is enrolled in the nursing program at Moberly Area Community College, but said she plans to also take classes at MU. Allison Bell had a different attitude toward high school, saying it was rough for her. The importance of the graduation ceremony? Getting done with high school, Allison said. I m sick of it. Her grandmother, Nancy Brock, didn t approve. We re all very proud of her, Brock said. She s got a great future. Allison will major in secondary education at MU, working toward becoming a high school history teacher. Dropped off by his mom, brother and grandfather, Dillon Hilbert put on his cap and gown before going inside.

Boone County students to receive better access to mental health care and resources

BOONE COUNTY – MU Family Access Center of Excellence (FACE) teamed up with Boone County schools to provide better access to more mental health resources for students, and and they have already taken steps to do just that. Boone County school leaders and FACE signed a Memorandum of Understanding last Friday establishing the next step in their partnership. The memorandum allowed FACE to give support to students and schools. Arron Thompson, the Director of MU School of Social Work and a FACE member, said one of the goals is to provide mental health support to everyone in the schools. “We can change people’s wellness and well-being by altering contextual factors,” Thompson said. “I think that is important work that we’re trying to do here not only by supporting the individual but also by addressing the contextual factors in a school setting.”

MU to provide mental health support to Boone County schools

BOONE COUNTY - Boone County School leaders and University of Missouri research faculty will sign a memorandum to increase mental health support for local schools and families Friday afternoon. According to a news release, various MU faculty who direct the Family Access Center of Excellence (FACE) plan to outline services that will support about 24,000 school-aged children and families. FACE S lead investigator Aaron Thompson said bringing the center and Boone County schools together is an opportunity to have important conversations advocating for the well-being of children in schools. These are our kids, this is our community, Thompson said. This is a huge need in every community and I think in particular in the past year, we ve seen this growing need.
