NOIDA: The state’s first virtual traffic court was held in Gautam Budh Nagar on Friday. The hearing was attended by judges from the Allahabad high court and senior government officials from Lucknow.
According to sources, the court heard disputes related to e-challans and e-payments of traffic penalties that have been pending for nearly five years. Officials said there are more than 11 lakh e-challans pending in Noida since 2017, when traffic penalties started getting monitored through cameras. In the past two years, the e-challans generated through mobile devices have also increased.
“During the national Lok Adalat on July 10, we disposed of about 10,000 e-challan cases and generated revenue to the tune of about Rs 70 lakh. The traffic V-court can be very useful in generating revenue for the state as well as be a convenient medium for citizens to raise their concerns regarding false challans,” said Vikas Verma, secretary, district legal aid services.
