Senior assaulted during robbery, 21-year-old arrested: Winnipeg police

  WINNIPEG A 21-year-old man has been charged following a robbery that left a 72-year-old injured in hospital on Tuesday. According to Winnipeg police, officers were called to the 300 block of Selkirk Avenue, where a man had been seen kicking a 72-year-old man in the head. He was taken to hospital, where he remains. Police believe the man was walking in the area when he was pushed to the ground by a suspect, and was assaulted until he was unconscious. The suspect then allegedly rummaged through the man’s clothes before leaving the scene. The suspect was arrested on Wednesday in the 800 block of Main Street.

The crash occurred about noon on Thursday, May 6, near the intersection of Vassar and Gera roads in Blumfield Township. A preliminary investigation by Michigan State Police troopers indicates 28-year-old Brett Rivers had been driving his 2009 Chevrolet Malibu when it was struck from behind by a 2000 Chrysler Concorde driven by a 39-year-old Vassar woman. Both cars had been heading north on Vassar Road at the time.

Crews in Dutchess County from the Arlington Fire District responded to a Vassar Road home near the Red Oaks Mill fire station shortly after 3 a.m. on Monday, March 15, where there was a report of a garage fire, Chief William Steenbergh said. Upon arrival minutes later, Steenbergh said that not only was the garage on fire, but the blaze had spread to the main house, which was engulfed in flames, prompting a call for a second alarm.
