LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - The Calcasieu Parish School Board has new reasons to celebrate after the state recently announced nominees for Louisiana Principal of the Year.
The latest news comes full circle for long-time educator and Washington Marion Principal Ronnie Harvey Jr.
Being an educator, undoubtedly, comes with its own set of challenges, and there’s none quite like what local educators have seen over this past school year. However, it’s a test that Ronnie Harvey Jr. has undoubtedly rose to in his short time as principal at Washington Marion High School.

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - Molo Middle and Washington Marion are currently being dismissed early due to a power outage, according to the Calcasieu Parish School Board.
Busses will be returning to campus as soon as possible to transport students back home. Students who are car riders can be picked up now and students who walk home will also be dismissed at this time.

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - The Lake Area lost a coaching legend Wednesday night. Former Washington-Marion basketball coach Albert Hartwell died at the age of 72.
Hartwell is remembered not only as a championship-winning basketball coach but a man who knew how to make an impression.
“He always loved wearing the opponent’s colors, that was his thing,” said DeRidder coach Edwin Kelly. ”He said, I want you to see your colors while I beat you.”
His wild suits spanning nearly every color was always a sight to see.
