Readers respond: Lost in the vaccine maze

Readers respond: Lost in the vaccine maze Updated Jan 31, 2021; It seems like getting a COVID-19 vaccine is like winning a lottery ticket.  The only difference is that with lotteries, you’re told the odds. As a qualified Phase 1A (Group 3) individual, I received an email from Multnomah County inviting me to schedule a vaccine appointment. I was directed to a Washington County Department of Health and Human Services form that informed me that there were no times available for the next five months. No explanation provided. How in the name of God can our governor promise to start seniors soon? Also, I wonder if teachers (Phase 1B, Group 1) are being prioritized ahead of remaining Phase 1A people. Bottom line: This a mess that finger-pointing will not solve.

Advocates push for COVID vaccine for Oregon s Latinx community

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Oregon s Latinx population has been disproportionately impacted. Author: Galen Ettlin Updated: 5:42 PM PST December 24, 2020 PORTLAND, Oregon One of Oregon s hardest hit communities in the pandemic is waiting for the coronavirus vaccine. Dr. Eva Galvez at Virginia Garcia Medical Center in Washington County is getting a lot of questions from patients.  Is the vaccine safe, what are the long term risks? she described. Virginia Garcia largely serves Latinx frontline and migrant workers in the county. They have been the backbone of the food and agriculture industry, Galvez said. And if we are going to ask them to continue to work in these essential jobs, we need to protect them.
