Elliot Lake city councillors voted to extend the community’s Age Friendly Delivers program into the new year at a regular city council meeting on Monday.
Council last approved an extension of the program to the end of December, but because of a steady demand for service, city staff recommended the program continue until March 2021.

“The program, in my opinion, should be considered a success,” said the city’s economic development coordinator Ashten Vlahovich. “It has been running pretty smoothly for the last eight or nine months now, and it has served a purpose in a meaningful way.”

The Cranbrook Age Friendly Committee kicked off its Age Friendly Business Recognition program this month.
The first two recipients – Auntie Barb’s Bakery (2019 Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Award – Age Friendly Business of the year) and Save-On Foods (2020 Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Award – Age Friendly Business of the year) were presented with “Proud to be an Age Friendly Business” decals for display in a prominent place.
The Committee is offering to assist any business who like to know how Age Friendly their business is. We would work with the businesses to assess their facilities and operation.

select With money from a Sisters Community Grant, Age Friendly Sisters was able to purchase cleaning supplies and disinfectant for the STARS volunteer drivers to use to keep themselves and their clients safe. STARS volunteer Annie Marland, left, met with Ace owners Daly Haasch and Brandon Beech to pick up the supplies which were sold at a discount. The red buckets were donated by Ace so each driver could carry their supplies in their car.

Food bank use in Ontario might be surging in larger urban centres, but those in rural, remote and Northern communities are experiencing the COVID-19 pandemic differently.
