All this week and next week at Newstalk, we’re running a special series called ‘The Show Must Go On’ which is geared towards supporting the arts and live events sector.
Earlier in the year a report by the ‘Live Venue Collective” said that the country was at risk of losing some of its most beloved and iconic live entertainment venues and also highlighted a risk of a brain drain of artists, technicians, and engineers from the sector.
Bobby wanted to hear from the nation s live entertainment venues to see how they have been getting on.

The resumption of major concerts and events after the pandemic moved a step closer with the establishment of a new advisory group on reopening the live entertainment sector.
Promoters and entertainment industry experts will advise Nphet and the Government on requirements to safely manage events as lockdown restrictions are eased.
The consultative stakeholder forum, established by Culture Minister Catherine Martin, will provide technical expertise and practical know-how on the staging of events when the sector reopens, a government source said.
The group is made up of officials from Ms Martin s department, the Events Industry Alliance of Ireland and the Live Venue Operators Forum, members of the City and County Managers Association, event safety consultants, the Event Production Industry Covid-19 Working Group, Department of Housing officials and the Live Venue Collective - a recently established group of small- to medium-sized venues working to sustain the industry.

Dolans have this evening announced that singer/songwriter Mick Flannery will perform in Dolans on March 19 as part of a 9-venue virtual tour of Ireland.
Supported by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport, and Media, Flannery will perform his popular album White Lies streamed from Dolans Warehouse. The online stream will be narrated by Susan O Neill.
This project, managed by the Live Venue Collective, has allowed Mick to hire musicians and actors, and all shows will be produced in safely controlled environments across the country, performing different albums and collections of songs in each.
A group representing small and medium live venues has said the pilot programme of Government funding for the live performance sector was a success and needs to be continued for as long as Covid-19 restrictions are imposed on their business.
However, another group representing the music and entertainment industry says most of its members could not access this funding and the criteria needs to be changed.
Last year, a €5 million grant was given to the live music industry to generate employment for those out of work due to Covid-19.
More than 20 small and medium music venues worked together to avail of just over €1 million of that funding.
