An Ardmore resident who died in last Wednesday’s standoff with Winston-Salem police staged a similar standoff in 2007 with Davidson County sheriff’s deputies. Edwin Joseph Castillo Jr., 34, was killed in an exchange of gunfire with officers, police said. An autopsy conducted at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center showed that Castillo died of a gunshot wound. During the standoff, Castillo also set a fire at the home at 526 Lockland Ave. where he had barricaded himself. The fire caused extensive damage to the house. When Castillo was 20, he faced charges in connection with an all-night standoff with Davidson County deputies in July 2007.

Inmar plans headquarters move out of Innovation Quarter, but still downtown

Inmar Intelligence plans moving from Innovation Quarter to One West Fourth tower Inmar Intelligence is moving on from its anchor space in Innovation Quarter, but is not leaving downtown Winston-Salem. Inmar said in a company blog posted Thursday that it is departing from a 242,000-square-foot headquarters building renovated from a vacant former R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. facility. The company is taking about 177,000 square feet in the One West Fourth tower to the west. It is planning to complete the move by May 2022. Inmar currently occupies a 242,000-square-foot building in Innovation Quarter, making it the largest tenant in the research district.

Hours-long standoff in NC ends with house engulfed in flames, man dead

JOHN HINTON A Winston-Salem man died Wednesday in the course of a standoff with police during which he exchanged gunfire with officers and set his house on fire, authorities said. Police later found a man’s body inside the burned home at 526 Lockland Ave., police Capt. Steven Tollie said in a tweet. Tollie didn’t identify the man. Hours after the incident, smoke lingered in the air of the typically quiet neighborhood of Ardmore, which is only blocks from Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Officers went to the house around 1 p.m. after they received a report of unknown trouble there, Tollie said.
