Two men are accused of posing as U.S. marshals to get out of wearing masks at the Wyndham Deerfield Beach Resort.
Walter Wayne Brown Jr., 53, and Gary Brummett, 81, were arrested on charges of impersonating a federal officer.
Both men flashed fake badges to hotel employees when asked to wear a facial covering and threatened to have employees arrested. Brummett also showed employees a laminated card that stated he was medically exempt from wearing one.
Employees became suspicious and notified the Broward Sheriff’s Office, who confronted the men while dining at the resort. Both men wore circular badges that read “Cherokee Nation Marshal,” and gave deputies ID cards identifying them as Aniyvwiya Tribal Nation members.

The feds have charged two men with posing as U.S. Marshals to avoid wearing face masks at a South Florida hotel.
Investigators say 81-year old Gary Brummett and 53-year old Walter Wayne Brown Junior were each told to put on masks when they showed up at the front desk of a Wyndham resort in Deerfield Beach last week.
In separate instances, both men were wearing badges, appearing to show they were Marshals working on a Cherokee tribal ground and told the hotel manager that he could be arrested for forcing them to wear a mask.
Authorities in South Florida arrested two men earlier this month for impersonating U.S. marshals after the pair allegedly claimed to be federal officers to avoid wearing face masks at a resort.
