Walton, Florida sheriff s office sued for gender discrimination involving EMS chief

DeFUNIAK SPRINGS A finance clerk employed by the Walton County Sheriff s Office has filed a lawsuit alleging gender discrimination and claiming she s been subjected to working in a hostile environment. Tammy Bradley states in her legal action that she and others have been groped and battered by county Emergency Medical Services Chief Tracey Vause and that Sheriff Michael Adkinson and his command staff have not only ignored the issue, but retaliated against her for bringing it to them.  Bradley, has been and continues to be subjected to a hostile work environment, disparate treatment, different terms and conditions of employment and was held to a different standard because of her gender and, because she reported (the) sheriff s unlawful activities, she has been subjected to retaliation, says the lawsuit, filed by Tallahassee attorney Marie Maddox.

Northwest Florida State College opens Walton Works Training Center

DeFUNIAK SPRINGS  Northwest Florida State College has taken a more hands-on approach to its Chautauqua Center. The college remodeled two buildings on the DeFuniak Springs campus and transformed them into the Walton Works Training Center of Excellence, which hosts 10 new workforce-ready programs. Among them are law enforcement, fire academy, emergency medical technician, paramedic, cybersecurity, drone technology, electrical welding, construction and HVAC. Michael Erny, the dean of career education, said the programming began in January. “We think this will be a game changer for that area, bringing these programs and bringing this life and activity to the campus that wasn’t serving the work force directly for so long,” Erny said. “Now we’re able to provide that. We’re really in position to make a difference with the local work force.”
