WORTHINGTON More than 100 residents of Ecumen Meadows in Worthington received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on Tuesday afternoon, and they were eager to celebrate the occasion.
Administrator Nancy Garvin said all but one of the facility’s residents opted to receive the vaccine, while staff members were divided into two teams. Half the staff received the vaccine on Tuesday and the other half will get their first dose in mid-February, when the first half receives their second dose.

543,329 doses of the coronavirus vaccine have been administered in Pennsylvania, including more than 88,000 people who are considered fully covered after receiving two doses. The Pennsylvania Department of Health Thursday confirmed 5664 new positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 788,834. 260 new deaths related to the coronavirus were also reported Thursday, pushing Pennsylvania s overall total to 20,128.
A 30-year-old Lehigh County corrections officer has died and Gary Dean s family says it was from the coronavirus. Maximus Weikel, with the corrections officers union, says Lehigh County needs to act to prevent this from happening to another guard. We need to increase staff and lower the inmate population, Weikel says. Lehigh County Executive Phillips Armstrong says it s not that easy.
As of January 19th, there were 77,537 cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) with 697 deaths due to COVID-19 reported among Mecklenburg County residents.
