This weekend marks another opportunity for fans to jump onto their Xbox and play through some free trials of a handful of games, as Xbox announced that three new games would be getting Free Play Days.
Lightning-borne storm scion or red-headed stepchild?
Six years ago Games Workshop expanded their venerable Warhammer Fantasy Battle wargame by introducing the new, sexy Age of Sigmar. Out went the quasi-medieval Old World with its blocks of grubby foot knights, in came the multi-dimensional Mortal Realms and shiny, superhuman Stormcast Eternals. It had a warm reception – by which I mean one guy was so disgusted he set a thousand dollar model collection on fire – but six years is long enough for new blood to discover and adopt the setting.
Barring a couple of digital card games and autobattlers, Storm Ground is Age of Sigmar’s first major outing in videogames – and you can buy it here, coincidentally. So, does Storm Ground land like a thunderbolt hurled from Azyr, or bubble up like a swampy fart in the rotten cauldron of Nurgle?

Gasket Games and Focus Home Entertainment have given Warhammer fans a much closer look at their upcoming turn-based strategy adaptation of the popular Games Workshop license.

Announced last year, Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Storm Ground stays fairly close to its tabletop roots, sporting an Fire Emblem style battle system where units move across arenas made from hexagonal tiles.
Aside from its multiplatform release (Storm Ground is coming to PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on May 27th) another interesting aspect of this new Warhammer title is how gameplay is split between solo and online multiplayer.

There’s not a lot about Total War: Warhammer 3 that couldn’t have been worked out by reasonable deduction, in the three-and-a-bit years since its predecessor launched in 2017. Given the Twarhammer trilogy’s long-stated aim of reproducing pretty much every faction and scrap of land in the Warhammer Fantasy Battle setting, there were only so many places it could go.
True to expectations, then, after Twarhammer 2 spread the map westwards to the lizards-’n’-elves carnage of pretend South America, this time we’re going to be headed East, to the region of Warhammer’s Old World setting centred around pretend China, aka Cathay, and pretend Russia, aka Kislev.
