Two community projects are given the go ahead in Buckingham

Two projects were awarded funding at the recent Buckingham & Villages Community Board meeting. The first was for £2,700 for Maids Moreton Parish Council and Maids Moreton Conservation Group, to carry out bramble clearance and tree planting around a local playing field. The newly cleared area will create more space for sports spectators and the new trees will provide wider and better biodiversity for the area. The second group to successfully gain funding was The Buckingham Society who applied for £2,200 to install a new information board at the former Buckingham Railway Station. The floods that happened in December was also mentioned at the meeting (see below)

According to the results of latest research by Savills published on Tuesday, property values in places like Beaconsfield, Taplow, Burnham, Stoke Poges, Fulmer, Gerrards Cross and Iver are not far below those in the poshest parts of London. A total of 6,682 houses, equivalent to 22.6 per cent of the homes – close enough to one in five lining the streets in the former South Bucks District Council area – would fetch £1 million or more if they came on the market. The tally in South Bucks is the seventh highest concentration of £1m-plus homes in the UK.

Iver Heath: Unauthorised builders merchants forced to leave Green Belt land

Buckinghamshire Council had to forcibly remove the builders merchants and their storage compound from Iver Flowerland. The council said they breached planning control and were causing “excessive noise and an increase in HGV movements” in the area. They were also carrying out inappropriate development in the Green Belt, and while retrospective plans were submitted to get planning permission they were refused by the council. The council said after “amicable negotiations” to remove the builders merchants and storage compound failed, officers issued planning enforcement notices which were appealed by the firm but later withdrawn. They have now left the site and the council has also restored the part of the site that was being used to display sheds and hot tubs.

The downpour saw some residents get stuck in their vehicles, whilst some were trapped indoors with large amounts of water entering several properties, causing severe damage. So, to support those who have been affected, Dean Jones, who is the partnerships and outreach manager at the University of Buckingham, created the Just Giving page with his aim being to raise £5,000 for those in need.
