LUCKNOW/CHANDIGARH/VARANASI: The mystery over the ambulance with a UP registration that was used to ferry jailed gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari from Ropar jail to Mohali court in Punjab turned murkier on Thursday after cabinet minister and government spokesperson Siddharth Nath Singh said the ambulance is bullet-proof and owned by Mukhtar Ansari himself and questioned the role of Punjab government in the entire issue.
“A thorough probe will be conducted to find out how an ambulance is being used as a private vehicle by Mukhtar Ansari. It is a bullet-proof luxury vehicle,” he said. “It is now for the Punjab government to explain how a jail inmate was allowed to use a private vehicle to reach Mohali court for a hearing and brought back to Ropar jail. It is more than evident that the Congress government in Punjab is providing patronage to the gangster and Twitter rani Priyanka Gandhi should now explain this at least on twitter,” Singh sa
Varanasi: In the initial phase of commissionerate policing system, the police officers will exercise their power of executive magistrates from a single court though no decision was taken about the place to establish this courtroom on Wednesday.
After completing the process of re-designating officers in the new policing system, commissioner of police (CP) A Satish Ganesh on Wednesday intensified efforts for creating basic infrastructure like arranging offices for himself and subordinates. “The re-designation process of subordinates was completed till Tuesday night immediately after the arrival of formal approval of police headquarters in this regard,” he added.

Varanasi: Fearing threat to the life of jailed mafia don and MLA Mukhtar Ansari while shifting him from Ropar jail in Punjab to UP, his wife Afsha Ansari has shot another letter to the President of India requesting him to intervene and ensure adequate security for safety of her husband.
In the 14-page letter sent to the President on Wednesday, she claimed her husband can be killed in encounter by planting some false story in case, UP police officials are allowed to bring Mukhtar from Punjab without fixing their responsibility for his safety.
Referring to the recent killing of sharpshooter Girdhari in an encounter in Lucknow and killing of Prem Prakash alias Munna Bajrangi, a co-accused with Mukhtar in killing of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai, in Baghpat jail few years ago, she demanded personnel of central paramilitary forces in the escort team.
Gorakhpur: Two children died while three were injured after a hostel gate fell on them on Monday evening in Lar police station area in Deoria district, said police. No FIR has been lodged and police have not received any complaint in this connection so far.
SP Deoria, Shri Pati Mishra, told reporters that some village children were swinging on the gate of a hostel near Math Lar PG College on Monday evening when it fell on five children. Two of them died on way to the hospital while the other three are undergoing treatment. “We are contemplating legal action in this regard,” he added.
Varanasi: With holi round the corner, the district administration will intensify rapid antigen tests of passengers arriving from ‘high-risk’ Maharashtra which has registered a significant jump in Covid-19 cases.
District magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma said, antigen test of each passenger landing at LBSI Airport is being conducted. However, this kind of testing of every passenger arriving from Maharashtra and other southern states at Varanasi Junction (Cantt railway station) and Manduadih railway station is yet to start, he said.
The DM said, the health department has been asked to arrange sufficient lab technicians and antigen kits. He said, budgetary provisions are also being ensured as departments concerned have been asked to release funds in this regard.
