Signal Mountain Library Getting Addition; Town Making Reopening Plans After COVID Shutdown Tuesday, February 23, 2021 - by Gail Perry
A contract was awarded on Monday night to J&J Contractors for building an addition to the main level of the Signal Mountain Library including an improved patio area under the addition. There will also be an elevator added to connect the main and lower levels. This work will be paid for by donations that were made to the Signal Mountain Library Foundation. The town will enter into a memorandum of agreement with the foundation that insures it will donate the funds to the town and that the town of Signal Mountain will use the funds for this project.
Feb 19, 2021 Thomas James Huber, 58, of Rainbow Lake passed away on Feb. 11, 2021. He is, and always will be, deeply loved and missed. Tom was born in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, on Feb. 11, 1963, where he grew up working on the family dairy farm while attending Sacred Heart Academy. He earned his BS and MA in psychology from Central Michigan University and University of West Georgia, respectively. For 29 years he helped countless students succeed in college under the federally funded TRiO Student Support Services program at Hazard Community College, Southwestern Michigan College and Paul Smith’s College. He was a healer and a giver. In Michigan, Tom volunteered for 15 years as a hospice bereavement counselor.

Norfolk County staff dressed down yesterday to help lift local charities up.
Dress Down Fridays initiative was another big success in 2020, where staff were asked to donate $2 to wear more casual attire on Fridays.
In total, over $27,000 was raised for local charities.
Local charities that received donations include:

Norfolk Association for Community Living

Women’s Shoebox Project
Simcoe Caring Cupboard Food Bank
Waterford & District Food Cupboard

Weekly donations of $2 can go a long way towards helping local charities.
Norfolk County staff raised $27,120 last year through a weekly Dress Down Fridays fundraiser. The initiative, which began in 2001, sees eligible staff donate $2 so they can dress down in the office on Fridays.

Although the work location changed for many staff, the campaign continued. The donations also increased.
âLast year was a particularly difficult year for our community, which makes supporting local charities more important than ever before,â Erin Anderson, Norfolkâs director of human resources, said in a media release. âThere are many organizations doing fantastic work right here in Norfolk, and weâre happy to do our part to support them.â
