The main contracting group building oil giant Shell’s Gangarri solar farm in Queensland has appointed its own subsidiary to continue work on the delayed project after the previous contractor, Davis Contracting, filed for administration following a dispute over payments.
The Electrical Trades Union, and smaller sub-contractors, blamed the problem on a dispute over payments between the main EPC contractor, the Indian-based Sterling and Wilson, and the Perth-based Davis Contracting.

The Queensland state government owned generation company CS Energy has been heavily fined after units at two of its ageing coal generators failed to deliver crucial grid services at various events the last two and a half years, and very nearly caused widespread blackouts in the sunshine state in one of them.
The Australian Energy Regulator says CS Energy has paid $200,000 in penalties for allegedly failing to ensure it could provide frequency control ancillary services (FCAS) that it had offered to the market. It has also repaid $1.3 million it received as payment to provide the services it failed to deliver.
The construction of the Gangarri Solar Farm near Wandoan has ground to a halt after more than 200 workers woke up to a brutal text message firing them because of an alleged contract dispute between their employers. It is the first solar farm to be built by international giants Shell QGC, which contracts numerous companies, including Davis Contracting and Sterling and Wilson who are alleged to be engaged in a contractual disagreement. The mass sacking happened two weeks ago on Monday, February 8, and Electrical Trades Union Southwest Queensland organiser Dan McGaw said there has been no progress on the 120MW solar project since.
