Health care workers who risked their lives to help others made second chances possible. Some said they found strength during the pandemic that they didn’t know they had.
“It took a lot of guts. It took a lot of tears,” said Magui, the UM Prince George’s Hospital Center nurse. “I’m tired emotionally, physically.”
When the pandemic struck last March, Magui was fresh out of school and overwhelmed. She nearly quit, but she knew her patients needed her. She convinced herself to keep going.

“I love taking care of people. I like being that person to put a smile on somebody’s face when they’re hurting,” she said.
The pandemic has changed the conversation around dining out, putting food delivery apps at front and center. But as delivery companies become more powerful, restaurants they work with already facing slim margins and high food costs feel at their mercy, unable to stop using them even if they want to.

CupcakKe is well known today for her hyper-sexualized lyrical style, wild performance, and comical persona. She grew up in Chicago, Illinois raised by her single mother. Starting at the young age of seven, she spent nearly four years in Chicago’s homeless shelters. In later childhood, she attended school with some of Chicago s other successful rappers, such as Lil Reese and Chief Keef.
Chef Ashish Alfred is bringing his modern French brasserie Duck Duck Goose to Dupont Circle this spring. It already has locations in Bethesda and Baltimore.
