4 demonstrators arrested for trespassing at Line 3 near Huntersville

The Wadena County Sheriff’s Office received a report of demonstrators on the Line 3 pipeline right-of-way northwest of Huntersville on Monday, May 24.
Around 12:30 p.m., the reporting party stated there were approximately 30 individuals demonstrating and some of them were climbing on equipment located at the work site, according to a Wadena County Sheriff’s Office news release.
When law enforcement arrived on the scene, the demonstrators were near the equipment. One equipment operator had become trapped in the equipment by the demonstrators. Korean War Mortar Found Near Nimrod, Then Taken to the Local Bar
Law enforcement arrived on scene to find some individuals had been at the Shell City Bridge with a metal detector and located the mortar. They placed it in their vehicle and brought it to the Nimrod Bar to show others. Contact was made with the Crow Wing Bomb Squad. They responded to the scene and took possession of the mortar.

At the time of the bomb squad taking possession of the device it was unknown whether it was still alive or not. Officials estimated it to be from the Korean War era, making the mortar about 70 years old. Once in the Crow Wing Bomb Squads possession, the Wadena Co. Sheriff ensured it will be disposed of safely.

Some treasure hunters had a find so unusual they just had to show it off Sunday, May 16, at the Nimrod Bar.
A group was searching the area near Shell City bridge with metal detectors when they found an old mortar covered in rust. It appeared to be very old, but also looked like it could be live, according to a news release from the Wadena County Sheriff s Office.
One of the individuals called the sheriff s office and shared that they were at the Nimrod Bar, in the city of Nimrod, with the mortar.
Wadena County remains in high fire danger. Burning is restricted without a variance permit.

A resident s burn pile turned into a grass fire Sunday, May 16, in Thomastown Township. The day saw high temperatures in the upper 70s, with very dry and windy conditions.
The Wadena County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a grass fire in section 18 of Thomastown Township at 12:46 p.m., Sunday. Upon arrival, it appeared a large section of grass to the north of the residence was actively burning including a large pile of railroad ties, according to a Wadena County Sheriff s Office news release. The Verndale Fire Department was on scene with Staples Fire Department and MN DNR Fire shortly behind for mutual aid.
