MassBay nursing student from Medfield helps administer vaccines

MassBay Community College Associate Degree Nursing and Practical Nursing students recently volunteered with the Watertown Health Department in administering COVID-19 vaccinations. Fifteen ADN students and 11 PN students assisted with vaccine administration and with the registration process for hundreds of residents who received their COVID-19 vaccine.
“Nursing students are needed to administer vaccines and provide vaccine education in our communities,” said MassBay Director of Nursing Andrea Bresnahan. “Being part of the COVID-19 vaccination effort is a rare opportunity for students to directly learn about population health, participate in public health program, gain clinical experience, and ultimately save lives.”

Fifteen ADN students and 11 PN students assisted with vaccine administration and with the registration process for hundreds of residents who received their COVID-19 vaccine.

Two hundred Watertown residents, age 75 and up, were able to get the COVID-19 vaccine in their hometown on Feb. 10. The Watertown Health Department received 200 doses of the Moderna vaccine from the state and will be getting more each week and will notify residents when about the clinics.
The clinic on Feb. 10 was held in the community room of the Watertown Police station between 12:30 and 4 p.m. There were four vaccination stations staffed by volunteer nurses from universities or through the Medical Reserve Corps. Twenty-four residents were waitlisted, according to Public Health Nurse Wil VanDinter.
