Some folk seem to have it all. At 28, John John Florence has already enjoyed a career as one of the world’s most talented professional surfers. He lives on the north shore of Oahu, opposite the famous Pipeline wave which he is renowned for dominating. And when he’s not touring the world competing on the World Surf League (WSL) tour he’s surfing optimum waves with his younger brothers.

It is now simpler to harvest and store power on board than ever before – no bad thing when you consider how many power-hungry gadgets fill a modern cruising yacht.

Over the years, the IMOCAs have become veritable technology laboratories. Autopilots, optical fiber, satellite communication systems or even security, progress is everywhere and continues to inspire more and more businesses in the maritime sector.
The innovations developed for offshore racing are performance driven and developed across a large market ranging from yachting to the merchant navy. Focus on these technology transfers.
Among the boats returning from the Vendée Globe, some teams are focusing on repairs while others are making a series of modifications to improve performance.
