Santa letters: A look at how the pandemic is impacting children and families

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Jwana Gunn is Customer Relations Coordinator for US Postal Service at Birminghamâs main post office. Sheâs been Santaâs helper for 7 years sorting out his mail.
Gunn said normally, that means at the most two thousand letters, but this year she said itâs 6-thousand plus.
Gunn said she believes itâs because children are spending more time at home because of remote learning and have more time to write letters. Letters she said have been pouring in since June. Still, itâs what children are asking for that is both heartwarming and heartbreaking to her.

USPS busier than ever this holiday season

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The United States Postal Service is urging anyone shipping gifts this holiday season to do it immediately as they work to accommodate what they call an “unprecedented” amount of mail this holiday season.
William Toner lives in Fort Myers, he’s visited the post office multiple times this week but long lines have kept him coming back to ship gifts to his loved ones around the country.
“I think everyone was here when I was two days ago, it was just a madhouse,” said Toner.
Robert Rhoad is the Customer Relations Coordinator with the USPS. He said this is typically the busiest time of the year due to the influx of gifts shipped around the country during the holidays.
