Last week, county Executive Director Howard Lazarus gave a budget presentation focusing on the county s fiscal situation through the end of March. The county budget cycle runs from January through December. This is the first time a budget presentation was offered in the spring; usually, a presentation is given in December prior to the adoption of the following year s budget. Assam chief electoral officer Nitin Khade said strong security measures have been taken to ensure smooth conduct of the counting process. The linkage between strong room and the counting hall will be maintained with strict security to avoid any untoward situation. Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs) at the well-ventilated counting venues will be sanitised before the commencement of the process.
