Police charge man after pursuit at Collingullie
A man who led police on a pursuit in the state’s Riverina has been charged.
About 9.45pm (Wednesday 12 May 2021), officers attached to Riverina Police District Traffic & Highway Patrol attempted to stop a silver Ford Falcon traveling south on the Sturt Highway, Collingullie, about 26km north-east of Wagga, for a random breath test.
Police allege the driver initially stopped; but accelerated at speed as officers approached the man’s vehicle.
A pursuit was initiated, however terminated a short time later after the driver crossed to the northern side of the road numerous times while allegedly reaching speeds of more than 170km/h.

He’s been charged with five counts of intentionally causing fires and recklessly letting them spread.
The arrest was the culmination of Strike Force Rummery, which was set up earlier in January to investigate the cause of the fires.
Officers also searched the former RFS volunteer’s home and apparently took a bunch of items with them for forensic investigation.
While these fires weren’t part of the horrific 2019/2020 bushfire season, they still had the potential to be extremely severe, considering the intense heat we’ve had this summer.
Those previous fires killed 33 people, destroyed over 3,000 homes and affected three billion animals.
A search warrant was executed at the home and police seized items for forensic examination.
He was denied bail and is due to face Wagga Wagga Local Court on Wednesday, after facing bail court on Saturday.
Footage of the arrest was released by NSW Police, showing the man being approached by officers at the rural home before he was taken into custody.
