LDWF Accepting Houseboat Mooring Lottery Applications The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) is accepting lottery applications for houseboat mooring sites on Atchafalaya Delta Wildlife Management Area (WMA) for the 2021-22 hunting season through Aug. 12. Permits issued for selected applicants will be valid from Sept. 1, 2021 until March 16, 2022. Year round mooring is not permitted on Atchafalaya Delta WMA. LDWF will permit approximately 60% of the available sites at Atchafalaya Delta WMA. Successful applicants will only be allowed to moor adjacent to designated pilings. Mooring sites will be available at Log Island Pass (Main Delta) and Campground Pass (Wax Delta) only. All permits will be issued using a computerized lottery system.

Boating, fishing piers to be built in Pointe-aux-Chenes

Construction has begun on seven piers in the Pointe-aux-Chenes area announced by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. Construction began Jan. 11 and is expected to last until early to mid August, said Vaughan McDonald, biologist manager of the department s Coastal Lafayette Region. The cost of the project is $2.5 million, which came from the BP oil spill settlement, he said. “It’s basically to reimburse the people of the state for the loss of their recreation because of the spill,” McDonald said. Three of the piers are on La. 665, two are on Island Road and two are in the town of Montegut. Construction of the piers will be done in phases.

LDWF Begins Construction of Fishing Piers at Seven Water Control Structures on Pointe-aux-Chenes WMA January 25, 2021 Contractors have begun construction of new fishing piers at seven water control structures on Pointe-aux-Chenes Wildlife Management Area (WMA), the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries announced. Construction is expected to last until approximately the middle of August. Public access may be restricted to the water control structures during construction. Contact LDWF for information. Those visiting Pointe-aux-Chenes WMA are asked to stay away from construction equipment as well as construction areas. Pointe-aux-Chenes WMA is located in Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes about 15 miles southeast of Houma off Louisiana Highway 665.
