Murder trial set for police shooting of Aboriginal mother

The family and loved ones of a Yamatji woman will finally have their case heard in court, as a date is set for the murder trial of a WA policeman. JC, whose name has been changed for cultural reasons, was fatally shot by police after they were called out to a disturbance in Geraldton, around 400km north of Perth.  The first-class constable officer, whose name has been suppressed, was the first serving police officer to be charged with murder over an Aboriginal death in custody in almost 100 years.  Legal representatives confirmed to Perth s Supreme Court on Thursday that the case was ready for trial in October.

The former midfielder-turned-coach was granted special permission by the state government to fly from Brisbane to Perth on Sunday, however players and club officials were required to isolate at home for 14 days unless attending a training session or match. Assistant Dockers coach Josh Carr has been reprimanded after breaching quarantine on the team’s return from Brisbane. Three days into the order, Carr was not at his house when police attended for a compliance check, a WA Police spokesman said.

Perth: Shocked onlookers witness a man being arrested in the middle of a Westfield shopping centre

21:41 EDT, 28 July 2021 Shocked onlookers witnessed the moment a man was arrested and slapped with over two dozen offences after leading police on a high-speed chase.  The 32-year-old man from North Freemantle began speeding away from police at 11:30am on Tuesday in Anketell, Perth, after officers tried to stop a car they believe was stolen from a home in O Connor on Monday. It is alleged that the driver, who was on bail at the time, failed to stop and sped away, leading police on a chase though the suburbs of Mandurah, Armadale and Cannington.  Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle, a Ford Escape, driving erratically and on the wrong side of the road, narrowly missing oncoming traffic.
