New Delhi, May 13 : The Supreme Court on Thursday told Centre that it has to consider harsh realities in connection with migrant workers during the lockdown announced by various state governments.
A bench comprising Justices Ashok Bhushan and M.R. Shah said it is inclined to pass directions to NCR states to have community kitchens and to facilitate transportation of migrant workers who are willing to return to their native places amid the ongoing second wave of COVID-19 pandemic.

Maintaining that it will not leave people of Karnataka in the lurch, the apex court refused to interfere with the state HC’s order to the Centre to increase the daily oxygen allocation for the state from 965 MT to 1,200 MT.
“It’s a well calibrated, deliberated and judicious exercise of power after taking into account the number of Covid-19 cases. We will not interfere with it,” the Bench told Solicitor General Tushar Mehta.

Karnataka announces complete lockdown from 10-24 May
Karnataka chief minister BS Yediyurappa on Friday announced a complete lockdown and said that the corona curfew had been unsuccessful in curbing the COVID-19 surge in the state. As Covid-19 cases are surging in the state, corona curfew was not successful. So, a complete lockdown will be imposed from 6 am on 10 May to 6 am on 24 May. All hotels, pubs and bars will remain closed. Eateries, meat shops & vegetable shops can operate from 6-10 am.
