Outside Scoop: Random Acts of Kindness
Special to the Daily
This Wednesday, Feb. 17, is Random Acts of Kindness Day in the United States. This national day is an encouragement to go out of your way and do something extraordinary that is not part of your routine. It can be anything, from a simple extra smile to a stranger or helping clean up garbage. What are some ways to be kind in the Vail Valley?
The Vail Craft Beer Festival and the Vail Wine Festival have announced dates for 2021. The beer festival runs from Thursday, June 24 to Saturday, June 26. The wine festival runs from Thursday, Aug. 5 to Saturday, Aug. 7.
The 2020 Vail Wine Classic was social distanced, with hourly entry times, spread out tables and required masks while not tasting.

The organizers of both events, Team Player Productions, announced the new dates in an email. RSVP’s are now open, and tickets are expected to go on sale in March.
The events will still be social distanced like 2020’s events, which means that ticket sales will be limited.

Will there be six more weeks of winter or an early spring? This is all ‘determined’ by a groundhog who emerges from his winter den. Yes, it’s a “he,“ as the tradition has morphed (changed) into a festival and ceremony in a town in western Pennsylvania. The town of Punxsutawney now hosts the official Groundhog Day where the weather forecast is determined.
Sustainability Tip
It’s fair to say we all leapt into this new year with more hope in our hearts and minds than we’d come to know in the year prior. What may be a surprise is the list of positives hidden beneath the suite of misfortune last year brought.
“I feel like there is a silver lining, and the more we can talk to people about finding that, the more the effect of the pandemic won’t be as negative, long-lasting and impactful as it’s always painted out to be, with people finding new opportunities, new ways to engage, and using it for a positive shift in their life,” said Chris Rieder, Eagle County Program Director of Mind Springs Health.
