ST. MARYS — The 3 Breastketeers will host their fifth annual Breast Cancer Dice Run on Sunday, Sept. 24, continuing to raise funds for Elk County cancer patients in need.

It’s fair to say we all leapt into this new year with more hope in our hearts and minds than we’d come to know in the year prior. What may be a surprise is the list of positives hidden beneath the suite of misfortune last year brought.
“I feel like there is a silver lining, and the more we can talk to people about finding that, the more the effect of the pandemic won’t be as negative, long-lasting and impactful as it’s always painted out to be, with people finding new opportunities, new ways to engage, and using it for a positive shift in their life,” said Chris Rieder, Eagle County Program Director of Mind Springs Health.
ST. MARYS â For the past couple of years, The 3 Breastketeers have been dedicated to raising funds for Elk County patients battling breast cancer, while also spreading awareness. Â
Darlene Eckert of St. Marys, who works at CenClear, said she grew up with Mary Zuchelli of Treasure Lake, a nurse at Penn Highlands Healthcare, and the late Chris Rieder of St. Marys.
The three went to high school together and remained friends over the years, and were all diagnosed with breast cancer within a couple months of each other in 2018, hence âThe 3 Breastketeers,â Eckert said.
Eckert s cancer was stage one, Zuchelli stage two and Rieder, stage three. It spread to her brain, and she has been gone a year in June. The group still does everything in her memory, keeping the â3â in the name.
