Teamwork: Terry Peate and Sue Gorman of the Cockermouth branch of Linking Lives, in which volunteers reach out to the lonely and isolated An organisation reaching out to the lonely and isolated has thrived during lockdown. The Cockermouth Churches Together launched a local branch of the national organisation Linking Lives and has 50 people on its books. Every week these 52 receive a phone call from trained volunteers that lasts at least an hour a week. Now the organisation is looking at going one step further. Chairman and operations manager Terry Peate said the 45 volunteers will now be looking at how they can safely visit some of the people they have been calling and even, when they feel safe, take them out to a garden centre or for a cup of coffee.
