The city council of Kenosha, Wisconsin, denied Jacob Blake s claim for damages over the injuries he sustained when he was shot by a police officer outside of an apartment complex last summer.
The constant demand by liberals that we have a grand discussion about policing is difficult because many of them continue to ignore the facts about specific cases. The shooting of Jacob Blake is currently the most prominent example.
District Attorney Michael Graveley announced in January that Rusten Sheskey would face no criminal charges in the Aug. 23 incident that left Blake paralyzed from the waist down.
On Tuesday, Chief Daniel Miskinis issued a press release on Twitter stating that Sheskey has also been cleared of breaking any internal policies, and has been back on duty after months of administrative leave since March 31. Although this incident has been reviewed on multiple levels, I know that some will not be pleased with the outcome, Miskinis wrote. However, given the facts, the only lawful and appropriate decision was made.
The news came the same day that a suburban Minneapolis police officer Kim Potter resigned the day after she fatally shot Daunte Wright during a traffic stop. Her boss, Brooklyn Center, Minn., Police Chief Tim Gannon, who had told reporters that Potter thought she was firing her Taser, not her gun, and referred to the shooting as an accident, also resigned Tuesday.
District Attorney Michael Graveley announced in January that Sheskey would not be charged in the incident because the evidence suggested he could make a case for self defense. Graveley gave a lengthy description of why he felt that was the case including the fact that Blake had a felony warrant and police were obligated not to let him go. Also, something which I’ve rarely seen mentioned in any media accounts is the fact that Blake clearly lied to investigators:
He claimed not to know why the officers were trying to arrest him. He flatly claimed he had no idea there was a warrant out for his arrest. But the investigators found a text on Blake’s phone in which he mentioned that there was an arrest warrant out for him. It was the only warrant for his arrest so there’s no confusion which warrant this was about. He also had searched for his own warrant on a website. In short, he lied and his credibility as a prosecution witness would be severely limited because of that.
