Schools report dozens of cases, might see rise as county figures increase
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) Schools have adapted to the pandemic and created a system that officials say has worked for safe learning. However, Deschutes County is moving into the Extreme Risk category for COVID-19. While schools operate with different guidelines, they still see the effects of rising COVID-19 numbers.
There have been 70 cases of COVID-19 in the past 28 days at Bend-La Pine Schools, according to the district s dashboard. High schools have seen the bulk of these cases, and health officials say it s extra-curricular, outside-school activities that appear to be increasing young people s risk of getting the virus.

Interim Superintendent Lora Nordquist addressed the issue with the board. I mean my feeling is, if our case counts don t start going down fairly soon, we might need to look at a Plan B, Nordquist said. I m not quite sure what that is, but we have a lot of kids at home right now.
Bend To Lava Butte Path Project
An online Open House ends Friday for the U.S. 97 Multi-Use Trail (Bend to Lava Lands) project. This project will design and construct a paved trail south of Bend connecting to the Newberry National Volcanic Monument within the Deschutes National Forest. This trail will parallel U.S. 97 from Knott Road to the Lava Lands Visitor Center, providing connectivity to recreation sites and attractions in the area and increased access for a variety of users.

The Education Foundation for Bend-La Pine Schools is holding a large teacher/staff and the appreciation event this week. Every staff member in the Bend-La Pine School District will be included in this appreciation initiative. The Education Foundation has been working diligently over the past 5 months on an initiative to celebrate and thank our teachers and staff for their dedication and determination in getting the students back into the classroom along with the support they provided to students during last year’s unprecedented Covid times.
