The signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation on low-carbon hydrogen with Singapore signals the start of greater collaboration between the two countries as they transition towards low carbon economies, says Energy and Resources Minister Dr Megan Woods.
The cooperation agreement between New Zealand’s Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment and Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry and the National Climate Change Secretariat was signed today by Minister Woods and Dr Tan See Leng, Singapore’s Second Minister for Trade and Industry.
“This memorandum builds on the Singapore-New Zealand Enhanced Partnership signed in 2019 and marks the start of a journey between our two countries to collaborate on the production, deployment and research into a new hydrogen economy,” said Megan Woods.

Happy new year everyone.
Saionara to 2020 and welcome 2021. May it be even better.
Today is the day MPs will start to think about the year ahead. With a stonking mandate and a possible once in a lifetime event, a majority MMP government what should it do?
Simon Wilson has written this very prescient slightly tongue in cheek article published in today’s Herald thinking about the subject. It is a must read.
As he says why not cancel a few motorway projects, they will become irrelevant as we head towards a post carbon post car society anyway. Why not build light rail now, feed the circular economy by using the powers of the state to fund local projects, improve education, and reduce poverty by making sure that everyone has enough to live on.

Community organisations that can help people lower their power bills and keep their homes warmer can apply for funding in a new energy initiative, says Energy and Resources Minister Dr Megan Woods.
The new Support for Energy Education in Communities (SEEC) Programme, launched today, is an initiative to tackle energy hardship and is aimed at households who are struggling to pay their power bills,” Megan Woods said.
“We know energy hardship is often the result of multiple, and often complex, underlying factors, and that there’s no quick and easy solution.
“There is already some great work being done in pockets across the country to help make homes warmer and more energy efficient. The SEEC Fund will expand this network of community-level initiatives that offer trusted, specialist and personalised energy advice to reach even more people who need it, through in-home visits, over the phone or at local events.
