Daniel Roberts, 51, was sentenced to 55 years in prison after a three-week jury trial in 2007. Roberts petitioned Androscoggin County Superior Court for a new trial in 2019 based on what he claimed was new evidence derived from new DNA extraction techniques. It showed 29-year-old Melissa Mendoza, the shooting victim, may have handled the Smith and Wesson .38-caliber revolver Roberts claimed she was holding before he shot her in self-defense in his garage.

Close to 20 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and also five counts of unlawful sexual contact with a minor. Jessica Cox was charged and now convicted and sentenced for recording and sending a sexually explicit video and multiple images of a girl who was not yet 12 years old at the time of the crimes taking place. Several of the pictures were graphic and explicit of Cox touching the child in a sexual manner.

Read Article AUBURN A local man was indicted Wednesday in the fatal shooting of a Lewiston man on Halloween night. Abdikadir Nur Lewiston Police Department photo An Androscoggin County grand jury handed up an indictment charging Abdikadir Nur, 21, of 303 Aspen Court with intentional or knowing murder. Nur is accused of fatally shooting 18-year-old Hassan Hassan on River Street in Lewiston on Oct. 31. If convicted, Nur would be facing 25 years to life in prison. Nur’s attorney, Verne Paradie, filed a motion Thursday seeking a copy of the grand jury transcript. An Androscoggin County Superior Court clerk scheduled a hearing on that motion, as well Nur’s arraignment for April 14.
