Chesterfield artist Anthony Bowes is using his talents to help inspire people to get outside and get moving while raising money for the Virginia Capital Trail. For the month of July, Bowes is exploring all 51.7 miles of the trail and capturing his favorite landscapes and features on canvas. Each painting will then be auctioned off on his Facebook page with the proceeds going to the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation, which helps protect and enhance the trail.

However, the $10 million for regional trails included in the most recent state budget sets a new precedent for trails funding. Although news of the money was welcomed with open arms by advocates, will it be a one-time budget blessing or the first taste of a new golden age for trails in the commonwealth? The Virginia Capital Trail Foundation and the East Coast Greenway Alliance are partnering for the first-ever virtual Winter Warrior Challenge. So the Capital Trail is 51.7 miles trail, it goes from Richmond to James City County it’s awesome and the East Coast Greenway it is a trail that goes from Maine to Florida. The hope is to stay active and “conquer Virginia” and so the goal would be to run, bike, walk, skateboard, 282 miles.
