Police are responding to fatal crash - Virginia

Northern Territory Police attended the scene of a fatal crash earlier this morning. Just after 5am, police received a report of a male pedestrian who had been hit by a light truck on the Stuart Highway, 1km north of the Virginia Road turn off. The driver and passenger of the truck stopped as lawfully required and awaited police. Upon arrival at the scene, a 37-year-old male was pronounced deceased. Both occupants of the vehicle are assisting police with their inquiries. The driver tested negative for drugs and alcohol. Traffic diversions will remain in place for several hours. Major Crash detectives are currently on scene and are investigating the circumstances of the crash and will prepare a report for the Coroner.

Cavan emergency services attend overturned milk lorry

An overturned milk lorry in Cavan being attended by gardaí and the local fire service. Cavan gardaí and fire service have been called to deal with an overturned milk lorry at Carrickgorman on the R178 Bailieborough-Virginia Road on Sunday 9 May. The road is currently closed, with fire services from Bailieborough and Virginia attending the scene and trying to stop the milk from the tanker flowing into local streams and harming the fish population. The gardaí reported that no one had been seriously injured in the accident but advised people to take an alternative route as emergency services worked at the scene.

Citywide Brush Pickup to begin May 10

Citywide Brush Pickup to begin May 10 The Oak Ridge citywide brush pickup program will begin Monday, May 10.  Tree limbs and bagged yard clippings and leaves will be picked up, a city news release stated. City collection efforts will follow the accompanying schedule as closely as possible.The proposed schedule is a general guide and can vary considerably from the actual schedule due to weather conditions and/or the amount of participation by residents. All limbs should be placed near, but not beyond the curb, with the butt end near the street. Keep all materials off sidewalks, parking areas and out of gutters.
