Unified Early Childhood System Supports Quality in Publicly Funded Early Childhood Program
In the past year, Virginia Governor Northam signed legislation to create the Virginia Unified Early Childhood System, which is designed to support children’s school readiness regardless of economic, cultural, or ethnic background. Research indicates that when young children have access to high-quality early learning opportunities, they do well in school and life. The new system affords children at risk the opportunity to enter kindergarten primed to achieve their maximum potential.
Over the next three years, the Virginia Department of Education will develop and scale the system to ensure quality in all publicly funded early childhood programs.
Equity in Action
On November 2017, Fairfax County adopted the One Fairfax Policy, a framework, or lens, used to consider equity in decision-making and in the development of policies, programs and services. One Fairfax serves as a dynamic force to ensure racial and social equity throughout the County and helps county leaders look intentionally, comprehensively and systematically at barriers that may be creating gaps in opportunity.
Recently, One Fairfax provided the framework for a comprehensive set of recommendations developed by the Chairman’s Task Force on Equity and Opportunity
The Chairman’s Task Force was convened to leverage the insights, experiences, professional networks, and industry and institutional understanding that exists within our community to better understand the root causes of inequity and developed recommendations for accelerating the county’s progress towards becoming One Fairfax.

“The terrible crisis that we’re in under the guise of a real medical pandemic,” Ms. Wolf told Tucker Carlson, “[is] really moving us into a coup situation, a police state. The state has now crushed businesses, kept us from gathering in free assembly to worship, as the First Amendment provides, is invading our bodies, . which is a violation of the Fourth Amendment, is restricting movement. . The violations go on and on and on.
Virginia Governor Ralph Northam has said he supports a bill introduced by state legislators to end capital punishment in the state, US media reported.
State legislators in Virginia’s House and Senate on Wednesday introduced bills that would abolish the death penalty and convert existing capital sentences to life sentences without parole, ABC News reported.
Later on Wednesday, Virginia Governor Northam said in his annual State of the Commonwealth address that he supports efforts to abolish Virginia’s death penalty, citing racial injustices in the criminal justice system and the possibility of the state condemning innocent people.
This is known to have happened at least once in modern history. Earl Washington, a Black man, was sentenced to death in 1984 and “spent 18 years in prison in Virginia, including nine-and-a-half of them on death row. But he didn’t do it”, Northam said in his address.
