Tamil Nadu chief minister, M.K. Stalin has announced a cash prize of Rs 3 crore for those athletes who wins gold in the Tokyo Olympics which is starting from July 23.
The chief minister made the announcement at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Saturday while addressing athletes and sportspersons at a special Covid vaccination camp held for them.
The silver medal winners will be provided Rs 2 crore as cash prize and the bronze medal winners Rs 1 crore, he said.

MOC approves Rs 73.14 lakh for sailors training Europe

New Delhi, May 7 (IANS): The Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) on Friday approved a budget of Rs 73.14 lakh for four Olympic-bound sailors to train in Europe.
Though funds have been approved, the exposure tour could be delayed or even cancelled as the European nations aren t issuing visas to Indians due to a surge in Covid-19 cases in the country.
Nethra Kumanan (laser radial), Vishnu Saravanan (laser standard), KC Ganapathy and Varun Thakkar (skiff 49er) are the four sailors whose training plans in different parts of Europe were approved on Friday.

New Delhi, May 5 : The preparation for Tokyo Olympics of sailors KC Ganapathy and Varun Thakkar could be delayed as they cannot travel to Portugal due to restrictions put in place for Indian travellers.
Both Ganapathy and Thakkar have qualified in the 49er category. Portugal is the right place to train as some of the top teams who have qualified for the Olympics are training there. We also have a plan to train with them to become better. But due to Covid-19 situation in India we aren t able to travel immediately. We have to wait for the right opportunity, Ganapathy said on Wednesday.

New Delhi, Apr 23 (IANS): Vishnu Saravanan, one of the three sailors who recently qualified for the Tokyo Olympics, says staying calm like former India cricket captain MS Dhoni will be key during the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.
Saravanan (Laser Standard), Nethra Kumanan (Laser Radial) and Vishnu Ganapathy and Varun Thakkar (Skiff 49er) had recently qualified for the Olympics, that start on July 23, through the Mussanah Open Sailing Championships in Oman, an Asian and African Olympic Qualifier.
In a virtual media interaction, Saravanan said he will be happy to finish in the top 50.
