Pupils at Friarage School enjoy newly refurbished play area

It has been designed to encourage exploration and discovery, and support the children’s physical development. Headteacher Cheryl Cappleman said: “It is fantastic to have all the children back in school now. We are really happy with the changes we have made. We have created a welcoming, stimulating and challenging outdoor environment for our children.” Pupil enjoying an expedition in the playground. The school maintained contact with all families during the lockdown period, with phone calls, emails and some home visits, and found this to be really helpful with engaging the children in remote learning, and with the transition back into school.

Theresa Villiers welcomes funding for Barnet nurseries

Chipping Barnet MP Theresa Villiers Theresa Villiers has thanked Barnet Council for finding £100,000 to help fund maintained nursery schools in the area. The Barnet Early Years Alliance, which includes Brookhill, Hampden Way and St Margaret’s nurseries in Mrs Villiers Chipping Barnet constituency, is to receive £75,000. Moss Hall in nearby North Finchley is in line for a £25,000 cash injection from the authority. Ms Villiers says she has been campaigning for a long-term national funding settlement for maintained nurseries. She said: I would like to thank Barnet Council and its lead member for education, Cllr David Longstaff, for recognising the great work these nurseries do for vulnerable and SEND children.
