DOWNTOWN DES MOINES, IOWA (Apr. 26, 2021) â The Downtown Farmers Market â presented by UnityPoint Health â Des Moines will begin its season with the opening bell in the Historic Court District in Downtown Des Moines (DSM) on Saturday, May 1 at 7 a.m. Several frontline workers and vendors will be present to help usher in the start of the modified 2021 Market season.
The modified Market will include updated protocols that are in line with current COVID-19 recommendations. A total of 110 â 115 fresh produce, artisan packaged food and flower vendors will be present at the modified Market, around half the number of vendors that are normally on site. An extra booth-length distance will be placed between participating vendors and attendees will be encouraged to adhere to the 6-feet social distancing guideline while shopping at The Market. Masks will be required for attendees and vendors, and hand sanitizer stations will be available throughout The Marke
The Des Moines Downtown Farmers Market may look different this year, but businesses in the Historic Court District are preparing for crowds with dine-in specials and adjusted hours.
Here are some of the places guests can stop by on their way in or out of the market:
1908 Draught House
Two women were injured in a shooting early Sunday morning on Court Avenue, Des Moines busy nightlife and bar district.
Foot patrol officers heard suspected gunfire around 1 a.m. from inside a building in the 200 block of Court Avenue, according to a news release from Des Moines police.
There they found two adult women with gunshot wounds. They were treated on scene before being taken to local hospitals. Both are expected to survive, Des Moines police spokesman Sgt. Paul Parizek said in the news release.
Sunday morning s shooting came about two weeks after three people were injured in a shooting in the 200 block of Third Street, which is also in the Historic Court District Neighborhood.
