The Pueblo County County Commissioners came out fiercely opposed to a Colorado General Assembly bill that they say would force an even earlier closure of Xcel Energy’s Comanche 3 power plant, and have far-reaching economic consequences in the county.
It’s an atypical move from the board, which doesn t usually come out in either support or opposition via resolution for bills, preferring to adapt administratively to any changes that come down from Denver.
“The bottom line is this bill would be absolutely devastating to many counties, but Pueblo County for various reasons,” County Commissioner Chair Garrison Ortiz said during Thursday s board meeting.
Puebloans could soon zip around town on an electric scooter, at a safe speed and wearing a helmet, of course.
The Pueblo City Council considered a first presentation on an ordinance to approve a license agreement between the city and Bird Rides, the shared electric scooter company that is proposing to bring a fleet of 200 scooters to town.
The ordinance calls for Bird to pay the city an initial annual license fee of $500 and renewal license fees of $200 each year after. Additionally, Bird would pay the city 10 cents per ride completed during the preceding year when they apply for renewal.
Downtown Pueblo will turn into a high-speed bicycle race track April 25 when the Pueblo Classic bicycle event brings professional, amateur and collegiate racers to town.
“Racers turning themselves inside out at 30 miles per hour in a tight group is really something to see,” said Steve Liebel, a Colorado State University political science professor and avid racer who will be master of ceremonies for the event.
The Pueblo Chilly Criterium yes, it’s a play on chile “is 100 percent a spectator friendly event a lot of fun,” Liebel said. “A criterium is a lot like NASCAR racing, but on bicycles.
A 0.7-mile loop is going to go down Union, cut across over onto Victoria and then it is going to go back up over the Riverwalk by the El Pueblo History Museum and then back down Union again,” Liebel explained.
