All about the island in Lake Woodlands - Mitchell Island
All about the island in Lake Woodlands - Mitchell Island
Hi friend. Today we have a fun topic at hand. If you have ever been to The Woodlands, or looked at a map of The Woodlands, you might have noticed that there is an island along the east shore of Lake Woodlands.
The unofficial name of this island is
Mitchell Island. There is much history to this island.
In the
early 1960 s George Mitchell had decided to dip his company, Mitchell Energy (think oil & gas), into land development. Local brokers of Houston knew of his desire to diversify, and informed him of a possible deal. This deal would be the first 2,800 of the 27,000 he purchased to develop into The Woodlands you know today.

While this year has been a year of firsts for Coughlin High School due to the unprecedented coronavirus, it is also a year of lasts. The current senior class will be the last graduating class of Coughlin. Next school year, James M. Coughlin, Elmer L. Meyers, and G.A.R Memorial high schools will combine to form Wilkes-Barre Area High School. Students and teachers are excited to attend the brand new, state-of-the-art school. Nonetheless, many have taken it upon themselves to make Coughlinâs last year one to remember.
Coronavirus has presented many of Coughlinâs clubs with a unique challenge. While the clubs wish to make this last year of Coughlin memorable, COVID-19 guidelines have made annual club trips, activities, and events nearly impossible. Despite the obstacles, Coughlinâs clubs have persevered by coming up with creative and innovative ways to continue their functions while remaining safe.
