WORK to demolish the derelict former ferry terminal building on Weymouth quayside will start next month. Demolition of the structure - known as building B - will start on Wednesday January 13, carried out by Dorset Council, which owns the building. The work is due to finish in April 2021 and will see the building reduced to ground level. The dilapidated structure has been empty since Condor Ferries, which previously provided a link to the Channel Islands and France, switched its services to Poole in 2015, as Weymouth port was unsuitable for a new larger ferry. The decision was a major blow as the ferry service had generated around £750,000 a year in income for the harbour. Around £10 million worth of investment would have been needed to make Weymouth port a viable option.
