Alice Twemlow named professor by special appointment of History, Theory and Sociology of Graphic Design and Visual Culture

Dr Alice Twemlow has been named professor by special appointment in the Wim Crouwel chair in the History, Theory and Sociology of Graphic Design and Visual Culture at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Amsterdam. The chair was established on behalf of the Wim Crouwel Institute, a foundation dedicated to making the heritage of Dutch graphic design accessible for research and education. Twemlow will combine her professorship with her work for the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague (KABK) and Leiden University.

On the face of it, her home is a standard semi-d in a Limerick suburb, but Saara, now a trained interior designer, has put such an individual stamp on it, that it was chosen to feature as one of the 21 houses in RTÉ One s Home of the Year series this year, produced by ShinAwiL, which is due on our screens shortly.
Given that weather played a part in her decision to leave Finland, one might wonder why Saara didn t opt for a warmer clime than ours. Fortunately, she had no illusions about the Irish weather - she had lived here for a year when she was 12 and knew exactly what it was like.
