TTUTA: Parents must ensure their kids observe COVID-19 protocols when schools reopen

JANELLE BERNARD President of the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association (TTUTA), Antonia De Freitas, is strongly advising parents to instil in their children the importance of observing all the COVID-19 health protocols including social distancing when schools are reopened on a phased basis in February. De Freitas says ensuring there is no spread of the COVID-19 virus is a matter of personal responsibility, and students must do their part. “Parents must reiterate these factors to students, because we would not want to embark upon this phased reopening and then we have to close school because we have cases mounting, or because we recognise that students in the secondary level especially are not doing what they are supposed to do,” the teachers union boss said.

Maha Sabha: Ministry might postpone schools physical reopening

CARISA LEE Acting Secretary General of the Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha, Vijay Maharaj, believes the Ministry of Education, at its Press Conference today, will postpone the physical reopening of schools. The Ministry’s press briefing is scheduled for 2, this afternoon. On February 8th, Standard Fives and students in Forms Four to Six were expected to return to school. “I believe that we have become a nation that is paranoid,” Maharaj said. A move, he said, which will affect the nation’s children mental health further.  He observed that children are beginning to hurt themselves. “Our children are not accustomed to being locked down for 10 months.  They need to socialise and attend school,” Maharaj said.
