North Shelby School sale still in the works
The Cleveland County Board of Education decided last week to resume efforts to sell the former North Shelby School property on Northside Drive to Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.
The property has been empty and unused since the 2018 opening of the current North Shelby location on Charles Road. In offering to buy the property Mt. Calvary said it hopes to turn the school into a community life center, hosting church and community-sponsored events.
The school board revisited the topic of the former property sale at the request of board member Danny Blanton, who has asked multiple times over the last year for the district to complete the sale.
Thursday was a day Brianna Norris family wasn t sure they d ever get to see.
Waving homemade signs, Norris sister, Cierra Brown and niece, Cymia Hurd, were just two of many supporters excited to see Norris graduate from North Shelby School. It was emotional. It was such a joy because when you see her at a young age and hear what the doctor reports and know the doctor says one thing, but to see her walk across the stage - she has surpassed all of the negative outcomes the doctors gave, said Brown.
Donning her schools black and red robes, Norris was one of eight seniors to cross the graduation stage this year. North Shelby hosted its graduation inside the school gym, in front of parents, staff members and other students.
