NORTH VERNON, Ind. – The North Vernon Police Department (NVPD) responded to the local Walmart on Thursday morning on a shoplifting report.
Employees tried to detain a woman acting suspiciously at the self-checkout area. She allegedly had selected $210 worth of merchandise but only scanned and paid $78.
When officers arrived, the suspect, Rebecca J. Bowling, 41, of North Vernon, had fled. NVPD located the car she left in, a short distance away, and stopped it.
Bowling supposedly gave a false name and birthdate to the police.
